ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for health, safety, and environmental compliance within all areas of the facility.
  • Coordinates, plans and prepares environmental and safety procedures and training for plant personnel to meet applicable Federal, State, local or company requirements.
  • Conducts environmental and safety inspections, audits and training as required by regulations or plant needs to ensure safe working environment.
  • Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions and conducts training in industrial or other setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Assistwith emergency preparedness planning, process safety reviews and accident investigations and makes recommendations for safety or environmental improvements.
  • Acts as the primary Incident Commander during emergency situations.
  • Coordinates with contractors or vendors providing environmental or safety service, and provides safety briefings or guidance to contractors performing plant work.
  • Prepares required local, state, and federal regulatory reports which include: water, air, and hazardous waste reporting.
  • Manages workers' compensation and facilitates communication and relationship with physicians.
  • Chairs the plant Employee Safety Committee, material / chemical safety review process, and other management teams as assigned.
  • Provides guidance on the proper classification, handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes and infectious waste.
  • Prepares environmental and safety reports and prepares purchase orders.
  • Travel to other plant facilities (domestic and international) for environmental or safety assistance as required.
  • Conduct and monitor on-the-job training including monitoring of weekly and monthly performance reviews of trainees.
  • This job may supervise administrative personnel or management cross-functional teams to support performance of other duties.
  • Other duties as may be designated.
  • Overtime as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assumes supervisory position in absence of the Sr. Human Resources Generalist and Human Resources Manager, and knows various contacts.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor technical degree or higher and three years of related experience and / or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in computer spreadsheet analysis and word documentation is essential.
  • Participation in environmental or safety professional organizations is desirable.
  • Certification as CSP, CIH, or other environmental or safety professional is desirable.
