We are seeking a Senior Power Plant Consulting Engineer who will independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. SynchroGrid works on many different types of projects directly related to system protection in all areas of the power system including transmission, distribution, and generation.
This role will be based in our Bryan/College Station, TX office.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the execution of projects for SynchroGrid's generation offerings.
  • Develop proposals for new generation projects such as relay settings, panel replacements, studies, compliance projects, etc.
  • Assist marketing manager with proposal submittals for potential jobs. This might require reviewing the customer's technical specifications, requirements, deadlines, etc.
  • Schedule biweekly/monthly meetings with clients to give project updates and progress.
  • Work with customers to offer generation solutions utilizing internal and external resources (subcontractors).
  • Work with team to meet project specifications, cost control and schedule objectives.
  • Provide training to young engineers and end-users on the theory, operational use, and maintenance of integrated protection and control systems and other generation topics.
  • Assist in the development, review, and quality control of relay settings and protection and control drawings.
  • Support P&C and settings engineers with questions regarding protection scheme applications and relay settings.
  • Develop mis-operation and root cause analysis reports.
  • Review fault analyses to verify proper pickup and coordination of relay settings.
  • Perform short circuit studies using ASPEN/CAPE/ETAP.
  • Develop and review NERC compliance verification reports for all PRC NERC Standards.
  • These include PRC-019, PRC-005, PRC-024, PRC-025, PRC-026, PRC-027, etc.
  • Lead and assist in the development of NERC compliance reports for renewable projects which includes reviewing and modifying turbine relay setting thresholds.
  • Lead and assist in the development of Arc Flash analysis.
  • Lead and assist in the development of generation grounding studies.
  • Take ownership of generator client needs, especially in the compliance area.
  • Help with business development by acquiring new customers when needed. This may require traveling to customer sites to give presentations about SynchroGrid capabilities and expertise.
  • Implement rigorous processes for relay setting development and review.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience in developing settings for generation systems.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Experience with power plant medium voltage designing MCC control centers, motor installation, etc.
  • Experience with Arc Flash development in a power plant environment.
  • Experience with power plant protection and control design.
  • Experience with protective relay applications and industry practices.
  • Experience with developing relay settings for SEL, GE, ABB, electromechanical relays, etc.
  • Experience with ETAP software packages.
  • Experience in developing calculations and reports for NERC PRC-025, PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-026.
