Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Briefly describe why this position exists. (What is the purpose, goal, or mission of the position) This position is a Laundry Worker who is part of a team operating the small piece folder, flatwork feeder, ironer, folder; finishes folds, and sorts patient clothing; sorts soiled laundry preparing it for washing; operates sewing and heat seal machines making needed repairs on clothing and textile items; fills daily and weekly linen and towel orders; Assist with Clothing Supply, sorting donations and sizing of clothes; cross-trained to assits any position when absenteeism occurs, Supervise and train inmate laborers. Also participates in Natural Work Teams and/or Quality Action Teams by applying job knowledge to recommended implementation if the desired quality changes designed to support change to programs and to support the agency mission and vision.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Duties in Linen Area
Work as a team operating small piece folder, flatwork-feeder, ironer, folder. Assist in folding of all linens (Blankets, spreads, mattress pads, etc.) Bag all textile items in plastic bags for delivery. Fill daily linen orders to meet ward quotas. Work is to be completed in a fast, efficient manner. Train and supervise inmate labor in this area Responsible for condemning of textile items.Duties in Clothing Area
Work as a team using the following methods; hand folding Neatly fold and place in proper cart or bag. Watch for articles that need to be mended Work is to be completed in a fast, efficient manner. Train and supervise inmate labor in this areaDuties in Washroom Area
Protective equipment (gown and gloves) must be worn at all times. Sort textile items according to towels/washcloths, sheets/pillow cases, white blankets, colored blanket/spreads, mattress pads/fitted sheets Clothing is to be sorted according to jeans, white under-clothing, wash and wear/lights and darks Place all individual sorted items into proper carts Check all clothing articles for name label identification Place unmarked articles in proper bag Train and supervise inmate labor in this area Weigh soiled carts and record weight for cost accounting Weigh barrels and carts for washing loads Select appropriate load for size of machine- 35lb., 40lb., 100., 200lb., 400lb. manually load goods then select proper formula for load according to classification and agency. Maintain inventory of essential supplies Replace washing chemical barrels and buckets when neededMending Linen and Clothing
Operates sewing machine and heat seal making needed repairs. Operates heat seal machine patching linen and clothing items.Other Duties as Assigned
Assist with dryer operations Supervise and train inmate workers and complete training documentation Assist with Clothing Supply; sort donations, size clothing Assist with laundry pick up and deliveries Operates sewing machine and heat seal making needed repairs.Housekeeping Duties
Sweep daily, Mop and disinfect floors weekly Clean and Disinfect Restrooms and Lounge as assigned Assist in disinfecting carts Wash Windows, blow down and polish equipment as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : Valid Driver’s License upon hire and maintained throughout employment.

Sewing Skills
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
