The College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, seek culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for the Postdoctoral Research Associate - Non-volatile Magnetic Memory Fabrication and Characterization position.

Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five different departments plus the Dean’s office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 1,700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students in several degree programs supported by approximately 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees. Position Responsibilities:

The successful candidate for this Postdoctoral Research Associate position will have a unique opportunity to develop and expand upon a diversified technical skill set while making a positive contribution to the field of magnetic materials and spintronic devices.

Research projects for this position will involve modeling, simulating, fabricating, and characterizing voltage-controlled nanomagnetic devices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in magnetism and solid-state physics. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in fabricating and characterizing nanomagnetic devices. In this position, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work and collaborate with a vast network of scientists and engineers.

Required Qualifications:

- Ph.D. in electrical/electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, or relevant field
- Experience in modeling nanomagnetic/spintronic devices
- Experience in fabrication and characterization of electric-field controlled nanomagnetic devices
- Strong background in magnetism, skyrmions, and nanomagnetic devices
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and short turnaround times

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in magnetic force microscopy (MFM) measurements
-Experience in magneto-optical characterization
-Experience in Lorentz Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)
-Experience in micromagnetic and atomistic simulations
-Experience in electron-beam lithography
-Experience in electron-beam materials deposition for thin films
