Job Summary
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Training Instructor in the disciplines of Fire, and/or EMS, or both.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Completion of essential elements of course coordination for each assigned program in a timely and professional manner.
Providing accurate instruction, commensurate with prescribed program learning objectives.
Employing effective instructional practices and media to promote learning.
Ensuring safe and effective use of training academy facilities during course delivery.
Ensuring that relevant policies and procedures governing student/instructor safety, etc. are adhered to during course delivery.
To be successful, Part Time Instructors must have the ability to establish and maintain effective communications and relationships with System members, members of the public, vendor representatives, and other County employees, while promoting the department core values of Teamwork, Integrity, Professionalism, and Service.
Hiring salary commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications per Tier
Valid drivers license and good driving record required at time of hire and must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
Tier I, EMS: National Registry EMT/AEMT/P or VAOEMS EMT/AEMT/P, and at least one year of experience.
Tier I, Fire: NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II, HazMat Operations or higher, Mayday Firefighter Down, NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I, VDFP FF I & II T-t-T, and one year of relevant instructing experience.
Tier II, EMS: In addition to the requirements for Tier I, if a candidate possesses two of the following certifications, they can be a Tier II instructor.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
The selection process will include an application review, in-person interview(s), and background investigation, to include criminal record check, fingerprinting, and DMV Record Check.
Night and weekend hours may be required. Part Time Instructors (PTI) are generally required to work a minimum of 80 hours per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
As PTIs are not considered uniformed firefighters under the Code of Virginia, they are not eligible for presumption as to death or disability from respiratory disease, hypertension or heart disease, cancer (§ If a PTI is an operational firefighter elsewhere in Virginia or was one within the last five years, the presumption may apply with respect to that employer(s).
PTIs who voluntarily opt to function in environments that are Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) must successfully pass an NFPA 1582 Physical with drug screen, and annual evaluations as outlined by relevant LCFR SOPs.
