Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Holly Tree Country Club is a private club located in Simpsonville SC, just outside of Greenville. The course was designed by George Cobb and opened in 1973. In addition to a driving range, putting green, and chipping green, Holly Tree also offers a private skills area.

We will be undergoing a major course renovation in the Fall of 2025. The scope of this project will include: all greens complexes redesigned, new better billy bunkers, laser level all tee surfaces, relocation of select tee surfaces, new naturalized areas will be installed, remedial design work on select holes, new irrigation, and some necessary tree work. Green surfaces, which are currently bentgrass, will be rebuilt to USGA specs and sprigged with TifEagle. Tahoma 31 will be installed around all greens and tees. All tees will be laser leveled. Some tees will be repositioned and others will be made larger. We will also be adding new tees on select holes. All bunkers will be redesigned/repositioned and built to Better Billy Bunker specs. The golf course will be closed for 10-12 months to complete this renovation. This is a great opportunity for an assistant to advance in their career with renovation experience at a high level club. He/she will be involved in all aspects of this project.

  • Works closely with Director of Agronomy and Senior Assistant Superintendent
  • 2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management
  • Managing bentgrass during summer heat stress
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to excellence
  • Pesticide and Fertlizer Applications
  • Irrigation and Drainage knowledge
  • Assist in daily scheduling of a staff of 20+
  • Daily record keeping of pesticide and fertilizer applications
  • Maintain and inspect golf course grounds, clubhouse grounds, and maintenance equipment
  • Must be able to work weekends and Holidays
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience in golf course agronomy
  • Obtain a South Carolina Certified Pesticide license within 60 days of employment
  • Ultradwarf and/or Bentgrass experience preferred
