PRIMARY PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE

The 211 Community Resource Specialist - Database Curator is responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of United Way 211's community resource database. The Database Curator ensures accurate, up to date, and clear information is accessible to the public through the public website and to 211 Community Resource Specialists to access while helping a 211 participant over the phone, or via chat or text. They direct communications with service providers to update and correct information in order to provide data integrity and adherence Inform USA standards.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Data Management 80%

  • Maintains regular contact with Minnesota social service organizations using a variety of methods in order to develop new resource listings for the 211 Resource Database, verify current information, and accurately classify listings according to the Human Services Indexing System, which is the service categorization system used by MN 211.
  • Enters, reviews, and updates records for clarity, conciseness, and accuracy in compliance with an internal style guide and the principles of equity and accessibility.
  • Prepares well-written narrative descriptions that clearly and concisely describe the agency's services including, where relevant, target populations, eligibility criteria, areas served, application procedures, languages spoken, hours, fees, and other aspects of the service.
  • Ensures information is formatted correctly for readability and usability across all public-facing platforms and any internal data connections.
  • Follows procedures for gathering and entering information in the database about interim changes to resources throughout the year.
  • Monitors external media and other information sources for information about new and changing resources.
  • Gathers current information about seasonal and other time-limited programs; adds to the resource database for the duration of the program and inactivates when completed.
  • Asks appropriate questions to determine whether new agencies/services meet inclusion criteria, correctly applies the criteria in selecting agencies/services to be included and follows notification procedures when an agency cannot be included in the resource database.
  • Trains and support staff from external organizations to provide new information and update existing information about their agency, site(s), and programs.
  • Ensures that information included in the resources database during a disaster is vetted and correct by implementing modified processes for adding, verifying, and reviewing resources and/or information during a disaster response.


Community Support 15%

  • Participates in community meetings and represents 211 in outreach to community groups, local businesses and social service providers by presenting information in the 211 database.
  • Coordinates with other United Way and 211 organizations and participates in the statewide Data Integrity Group (DIGS) conference calls and meetings.
  • Provides back-up phone support to Community Resource Specialists as needed.


Technology 5%

  • Supports the development of new/improved software for 211 by providing direction, feedback and testing, including the 211 website.
  • Assists with troubleshooting for the iCarol resource database and EMS Prevention Pays texting software.
  • Trains and supports database users (e.g. Community Resource Specialists, other internal staff, human service agencies, and the public) to retrieve relevant information from the internal database and/or public website resource directory.
  • Prepares and/or reviews reports about resources in the database to support the creation of specialized publications, directories, guides, etc.
  • Extracts, analyzes, and comprehends information from the database for reporting purposes (e.g. community needs, agency referrals, etc.)

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 2+ years of experience in Human Services or database administration.
  • Working knowledge of the 211 Human Services Indexing System or other Human Service classification systems a plus.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy especially using Microsoft Office suite applications, and internet searching. Ability to do research on the internet and custom software competently, and excellent PC skills with Outlook e-mail, calendar, Word and Excel. Aptitude for learning custom database software. Excel reporting skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of community organizations and services in metro area and across Minnesota.
  • Will be required to work other than scheduled hours, during a local or national disaster.
  • This position will be required to become a certified Community Resource Specialist - Database Curator through Inform USA when eligible.
