Position Overview:

  • Performs in vivo nuclear medicine procedures using tagged radionuclides. Doses patients with radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals as prescribed by the physician's orders, and under the supervision of the radiologist"authorized user" in the Imaging Department. Completes quality control and quality assurance procedures as required by the hospital and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license. Ensures complete and accurate data entry in the Hospital Information System (HIS) and Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS).

  • Mon-Fri.
  • 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.

Pay Rate:

  • $ $44.00 per hour (Based on location and experience).

  • Verbally explains procedures to patients and answers questions in order to reassure the patient.
  • Visually determines what scan has been ordered by checking the doctor's prescription slip or the doctor's order in the inpatient chart and correlate with the correct radioactive dose.
  • Confirms patient identification by verbal confirmation and visual ID band inspection as stated in the Imaging Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Obtains patient and medication history prior to the procedures. Ensures completeness of all forms and questionnaires. Scans all information into the document management system as required. Relates all pertinent information to the radiologist.
  • Prepares patient for imaging to include moving a patient weighing pounds from a wheelchair or stretcher to the imaging table ranging in height from 28-40 inches, operating oxygen equipment, either by itself or in conjunction with lung ventilation systems, and checking out IV equipment to insure continued proper function. This may be done either alone or with help.
  • Utilizes proper phlebotomy techniques to inject the correct radioactive materials into the patient with a minimum of trauma and infiltration. The doses are located in the lead lined drawers weighing 5 pounds and containing lead pigs weighing 2 pounds each so that the drawer could weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Monitors and observes any abnormal changes in patients color, respiration, heart rate and responsiveness. Responds appropriately to emergency situations,administers first aid/CPR as needed. Maintains emergency equipment in the room and department. Checks the integrity of the Crash Cart daily.
  • Completes all necessary daily and weekly paperwork: to include but not limited to dosage records, patient prescription confirmation, surveys, monitoring, dose calibration records, package receipt records, and dosage ordering records. Ensures staff is completing exams in HIS in the appropriate fields and appropriate documents scanned in the document scanner according to established procedure.
  • Verifies images and resolves image exceptions in the PACS.
  • Physical conditions: Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to move and push equipment.
  • Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist with the ARRT or CNMT.
  • Advance Registration in PET optional.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Clinical rotations in an accredited medical imaging program may be considered as experience.
