Holy Child seeks an experienced part-time middle school Learning Resource Teacher for grades five through eight for the school year. The teacher will primarily support students with language-based learning differences across all disciplines in the middle school and teach one middle school class in either history or language arts. Offering a combination of small group work, individual instruction, and in-class observation and support, the Learning Resource Teacher will report to the Director of Learning Services and the Middle School Head. While collaborating with subject teachers, students, and their families, the Learning Resource Teacher will advance the School's ongoing commitment to the success of every student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual or small group instruction for students, either in a pull-out or push-in environment
  • Collaborate with the Department Chairs and support teaching staff by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all learners
  • Liaise with local school districts and attend CSE meetings as appropriate
  • Assist with the organization and administration of standardized testing accommodations
  • Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss pupil progress with parents, if required
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of communication and documentation protocols related to learning support
  • Participate in Students of Concern (SOC) meetings, as needed
  • Assist with the coordination of testing of students by outside specialists
  • Counsel families on learning support and assessment accommodations
  • Meet with individual parents as necessary to discuss the progress of their children
  • Read and summarize all Psych-Ed evaluations for Middle School and for Admissions, as necessary
  • Possibly work with students in Grades 5-12 through clubs/teams or advisory
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and the professional growth process of the school Coupled with these credentials, the candidate will have a deep understanding of differentiated instruction, a flexible and team-oriented approach, strong organizational and written communication skills with attention to detail, and superior interpersonal skills, not to mention a good sense of humor. In addition, candidates with experience in an all-girls, faith-based school and those who will embrace the School's mission of developing women of conscience and action are preferable. Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Special education; undergraduate degree in English or history preferred
    • At least two years of experience as a learning specialist or in a related role
    • Independent school experience preferred
    • Familiarity with legal responsibilities of independent schools related to IEP and 504 plans
    • Experience with middle school students is preferred
    • Passionate and knowledgeable about progressive education, problem-based teaching and learning and differentiation
    • While not the primary focus, the ability to support students in Math is highly desirable
