Summary

Orlando VA Healthcare System's Specialty Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Cardiologist. Duties

This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Eligible applicants will be referred each week for consideration until a selection is made.

Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA serves more than 135,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliary (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus & 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), one Health Care Center in Viera, two large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus) & Daytona Beach, & five Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Deltona, Palm Bay & Tavares.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): An incentive is authorized.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in and/or manage all aspects of a general Cardiology program, to include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted.
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiac diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.
  • Provide services such as outpatient examinations, consultation services related to cardiology, management of patients with current treatment regiment, and admission status as necessary.
  • Participate in providing care in the tele-cardiology program at the facility Providing clinical consultation to VAMC clinical staff.
  • Patient caseload may be inpatient, outpatient, or both.
  • Work with primary care physicians on a consulting basis when a patient has symptoms that suggest a cardiac issue.
  • Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care. Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff Work with Trainees ( Medical Students, Resident, Fellows and Nurse practitioners ) to further education mission of the division.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am-430pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
