POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland seeks to hire a talented Cybersecurity Engineer to lead cyber security modernization efforts across our enterprise. The Cyber Security Engineer shall have a detailed understanding of cyber security methodologies in use in the field. Cyber Security Engineers are expected to have a meticulous attention to detail, outstanding problem-solving skills, work comfortably under pressure and deliver on tight deadlines. A Cyber Security Engineer must display an excellent understanding of technology infrastructures including Servers, Firewalls, VPN, Data Loss Prevention, IDS/IPS, Security Investigation and Event Management, Vulnerability scans and Security Audits. They will be comfortable working with a variety of technologies, security problems and troubleshooting.�\r

Responsibilities:\r

\r
Planning, implementing, managing, administering, monitoring and upgrading security measures, tools, platforms and solutions for the protection of internal and customer data, systems and networks.\r
Troubleshooting security and network problems.\r
Responding to all system and/or network security breaches.\r
Act as the primary point of escalation for Cyber Security Analysts\r
Ensuring that the organization's data and infrastructure are protected by enabling the appropriate security controls\r
Align to governance, compliance and regulatory requirements\r
Identify opportunities for automation and prioritize their implementation\r
Participating in the change management process.\r
Testing and identifying network and system vulnerabilities.\r
Daily administrative tasks, reporting and communication with the relevant departments in the organization.\r
Develop best practices for IT security.\r
Work with other technology teams and customers to perform tests and uncover network or other vulnerabilities.\r
May be relied upon as a technical point of contact during Escalated Events relating to security\r
Research security enhancements and make recommendations to management.\r
Handle escalated internal or customer security issues from support or other operations team.\r
Takes part in any security oriented projects or critical initiatives.\r
Stay up-to-date on information technology & security news, trends and standards.\r
Deliver an exceptional customer experience every day.\r
Other duties as identified or assigned.\r

PLEASE NOTE:�ITD is responsible for the 24x7x365 support for ADC mainframe, distributed systems, and networks.� All ITD employees are available for on-call support.� As such, this position is required to occasionally work an off-hour schedule, weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and / or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in cyber security or cyber security engineering or cyber security incident detection, or cyber security incident response or cyber security forensics.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

This is a security engineer position.� Candidates with the following experience are encouraged to apply:\r

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.��\r
Additional certifications in security related disciplines (eg: Security+, CEH, CISSP, etc.) are preferred.�\r
Technical troubleshooting and problem solving skills\r
Experience in systems administration of Windows and Linux based operating systems.\r
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, C++, Java, Ruby, bash, Power Shell etc.\r
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.\r
Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.\r
Great awareness of cyber security trends and hacking techniques.\r
Ability to learn and communicate technical information to non-technical people.\r
Must have excellent written & oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.\r
