Duties

The primary purpose of the position is to perform aircraft electrician journey level duties and to train others in that trade. Some travel may be required.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard Team.

Typical work assignments at the WG-10 level include:

  • Testing, troubleshooting, analyzing, modifying, repairing complex aircraft electrical systems and components.
  • Tracing hard to locate and intermittent electrical defects and problems using a variety of meters and test devices.
  • Setting up and operating computerized circuit analyzing equipment to run established and new diagnostic programs.
  • Aligning, adjusting, and performing final calibrations on electrical systems parallel generator units, and setting voltages in AC inverts, DC regulators and generators.
  • Replacing defective control units, relays, boards, servo units, indicating instruments, or other components of electrical systems.

At the WG-08 level, the employee will perform intermediate level aircraft electrical tasks. As more experience is gained, supervision will become less progressively detailed and the employee will be expected to perform additional tasks with increasing proficiency and independence, and is expected to progress to the higher level job.
