Main Purpose of Job

The part-time contractual Stationary Engineer First Grade maintains competency, proficiency, and licensing requirements via regular training, review, and demonstrated familiarity with OPM manuals, utility plans, emergency response plans, and all applicable safety and licensing requirements. Successfully completes situational or scenario problem solving, and appropriately demonstrates and applies knowledge, skills and abilities to real problems or emergencies.\r
Commits to quality customer service and confidentiality to work on patient and clinical areas following all applicable infection control procedures.\r

POSITION DUTIES

The On-Duty Stationary Engineer will maintain a\r
watch on the facilities high pressure steam generation and distribution system,\r
domestic water distribution system, fire alarm and suppression (sprinkler)\r
systems, emergency electrical generation equipment, and central air\r
conditioning system. Maintain complete and through documentation related to\r
their watch.��Conducts scheduled tests, inspections, and\r
rounds on their shift, maintains documentation of this work in accordance with\r
accreditation and regulatory standards as directed. Performs preventive\r
maintenance, maintenance and repair as needed to ensure equipment provides\r
needed services to hospital.��When necessary, remove equipment from or place\r
equipment into service, prepare boilers and other equipment for required\r
inspections and return inspected equipment to service, and participate in\r
general building maintenance repairs as necessary. Assist in weather\r
emergencies as needed.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the Eighth grade. \r
Experience: Two years of experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler. \r
Notes: \r
1. Candidates�may substitute additional licensed stationary engineering experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education. \r
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a non-commissioned officer in Steelworker classifications or Mechanical Maintenance specialty codes in the Metal Fabrication, Assembly, Installation, and Repair field of work on year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Stationary Engineer, First Grade from the State Board of Stationary Engineers.\r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the candidates to be examined by a Physician.� After an offer of employment, candidates for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.\r
2. Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation , Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r
