The Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) Communications Specialist will partner with the Senior Communications Manager in the Dean's Office to craft compelling stories and strategic messaging in support of WFUSM initiatives. Essential to the job are strong interpersonal, organizational, technical, and analytical abilities. This individual will provide comprehensive support with day-to-day activities, exercising independent judgment and creativity—and will develop, implement, and maintain communications strategies for the school.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, design or other relevant major.
  • (3) Three years' experience in communications or related field, preferably in a higher education and/or health system environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of AP Style with strong writing, presentation, interviewing, and content generation skills.
  • A firm grasp on principles of layout, visual design, and usability—prefer demonstrated competence in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere).
  • Command of HTML/CSS, web design and content management systems (CMS), email campaign platforms, social media monitoring and scheduling tools, reporting, and Google Analytics.
  • Understanding of marketing principles and practices.
  • Strong interest in continuing development, staying aware of industry tools, influences, and best practices.
  • A highly organized and creative self-starter attitude, great attention to detail with excellent project management skills.
  • Proven team player with ability to work and plan both collaboratively and independently.
  • Experience working on deadline-driven projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining commitment to quality and exceptional standards of integrity.
  • Ability to work across diverse groups in a highly matrixed and complex organizational environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify communications needs and opportunities based on demand and relevance, coordinate with stakeholders to generate content and craft compelling, concise, audience-targeted collateral ranging from student, faculty, and teammate stories, articles, scripts, web and social content, newsletters, SOPs and so on.
  • Plan, research, write, and edit copy to be used across communications channels (web, social, email, intranet, etc.).
  • Respond to stakeholder requests in a timely manner and facilitate approvals—internal and external.
  • Monitor collateral for consistency and relevancy, making recommendations for increased usability.
  • Provide counsel to stakeholders about the most effective communications vehicles and channels.
  • Liaise and coordinate with communication teams to integrate efforts throughout the enterprise.
  • Collect and report on relevant social media, newsletter, and website analytics to inform future communication efforts.
  • Partner with the Senior Communications Manager in assessing future strategic initiatives while evaluating the effectiveness of current efforts.
