Overview



JOB SUMMARY: This Business Specialist is responsible for ensuring quality control of the 340B business operations of the pharmacy department at Wake Forest Baptist. Under the direction of the 340B Program Manager, the Specialist performs a variety of duties including the following:

  • Perform quality assurance audits to ensure compliance with the 340B program and maximize financial opportunities.
  • Prepare and analyze audit and financial reports.
  • Monitor, report, and analyze contract pharmacy data.
  • Work with inpatient, outpatient, and retail pharmacy leadership to identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Maintain and manage the split-billing software and ensure data integrity.
  • Maintain knowledge of 340B rules and regulations and interrelated subjects (i.e., medical billing)
  • Educate staff on 340B program and provide training for compliance tools.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, Business, Accounting, or Finance and 1 year experience with pharmacy systems, analytics, accounting, logistics or operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a healthcare or hospital environment preferred. Experience with 340(B) program, inventory control or purchasing preferred.

Previous inventory control/purchasing experience preferred. A qualified candidate will possess:

  • Ability to learn all compliance, regulatory, quality assurance and control aspects of pharmacy operations.
  • Experience leading project teams and co-workers, and ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Proven analytical and process re-design skills, including problem solving, quantitative reasoning and workflow processing.
  • Advanced Excel skills and competency with Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent and professional oral and written communication skills.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs weekly and monthly quality assurance audits to ensure compliance with the 340(B) program and maximize financial opportunities. 2. Prepares and analyzes audit reports for presentation to the 340(B) Operations Committee. 3. Works with inpatient, outpatient, and retail pharmacy leadership to identify and resolve compliance issues. 4. Obtains and maintains knowledge of 340(B) program and all interrelated subjects (such as medical billing). 5. Educates pharmacy staff on 340(B) program and provides training for compliance tools. 6. Assists in other auditing and monitoring activities including controlled substance purchasing and distribution, and NDC management for general drug spend oversight. 7. Completes required training, as assigned, within the established timeframes. 8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers, and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of 340B program and pricing requirements.
  • Ability to operate independently, highly organized, and flexible.
  • Knowledge of WFBH's auditing policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze processes and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Flexible in work schedule, assignments, workloads, setting priorities and utilizing problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to assess learning/training needs of 340B analysts and other Pharmacy Services personnel.
  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Noise generated from telephones, computers/printers, robot, hoods, and verbal communication.
  • Possible exposure to infections and contagious diseases.
  • Possible exposure to the risk of bloodborne pathogens and/or airborne pathogens.
  • Possible exposure to latex and cytotoxic (chemotherapeutic) agents.
  • Pressure due to multiple demands.
  • Potential for criminal activity (robbery, etc.).
  • Subject to changes in work schedules and areas to meet customer/department needs.
