The Department of Psychology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Coordinator to work in Dr. Sannisha Dale's SHINE (Strengthening Health through INnovation and Engagement) Research Program which is centered around HIV prevention and treatment in marginalized communities, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, adherence to treatment for chronic illnesses, and structural issues (e.g. racism). The Research Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with several research projects, with primary projects at the time of hire being (1) an NIMH-funded implementation grant that involves direct engagement with community residents, businesses and health organizations in local neighborhoods during weekdays, evenings and weekends and (2) an NIMH-funded grant on microaggressions, discrimination, reoccurring violence and resilience among Black women living with HIV.

The applicant should have strong skills in coordinating and contributing to field and outreach activities and carrying out administrative aspects of study procedures. The applicant should have a strong scientific writing background and must be able to spearhead the programmatic components of research projects, including annual progress report writing to NIMH, and managing the upstart and logistics of a new community-engaged research project. The applicant should demonstrate both experience with and interest in psychology and/or mental health research focused on HIV, health equity, community health, LGBTQ+ health, behavioral medicine, and mental health. The applicant will be required to affirm and empower diverse individuals in terms of race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental health, substance use, etc. The applicant should demonstrate experience with and a commitment to serving Black and LGBTQ+ communities. Having the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously is key. The applicant will be responsible for collaborating with local communities and agencies, which involves finding community partners and local businesses, scheduling the events, creating surveys in REDCap, and handling community partners' payments/honorariums.

The primary work location of this position is on the Miller School of Medicine campus, however job tasks (e.g., outreach) may also be carried in out in local communities on weekdays and weekends. This role will require traveling to and engaging with predominately Black residents in local Miami communities.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Coordination

  • Coordinates routine activities of data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, event scheduling, and research subject interfacing.
  • Maintains and develops project correspondence and organizes meetings for the study team.
  • Takes the lead with preparing annual RPPR (progress report) documents for NIMH.
  • Developing annual scientific progress reports summarizing research activity within the project.
  • Must have familiarity with programmatic coordination and scientific writing skills.
  • Maintains general administrative records and participant records for the project.
  • Participates in selected University and community research councils, committees, and organizations.
  • Serves as project liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies, and product representatives.
  • Assisting funded projects with implementation and management of awards.
  • Works with the Outreach Specialists in their day-to-day activities of connecting with community organizations, members and local businesses.
  • Responsibilities include submitting reimbursements through Workday Journals for any participant and local businesses' payments.
  • Contacts possible local businesses to collaborate, creating flyers, distributing via social media (in collaboration with Outreach Specialists and community consultants).

Research

  • Maintains current knowledge of IRB policies and procedures to ensure compliance, and acts as liaison with the IRB regarding Core-led human subjects' activities, assisting in preparation of IRB protocol submissions and reports.
  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, etc.
  • Assists with data collection and community outreach events.
  • Administers HIV tests and delivers test results.
  • Screens for PrEP needs and provides referrals.
  • Participates in the publication of research results.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.
  • Carries out annual review and update of participant data by conducting patient follow up screenings of existing patients enrolled in the database, reviewing data collected for insertion in the study dataset.
  • Assist with the preparation of grant documents and submission of grant applications
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Valid unrestricted Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Able to work flexible hours, off campus (e.g. in local communities).
  • HIV-related knowledge or experience (especially with South Florida) is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Fluency in Spanish or Creole preferred, but not required.
  • Basic skills in use of SPSS or comparable statistics program (preferred)
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Highly organized, analytical and detail oriented with strong planning and writing skills, ability to work independently and think through activities, projects or initiatives with tight deadlines.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting deadlines.
