POSITION SUMMARY: The Adult Education and ELL Counselor is responsible for building relationships and maintaining contact with prospective and current students in Adult Education and ELL programs. Using their extensive knowledge of college resources, the Adult Education and ELL Counselor will provide career development services with a focus on student success. Serving as a backup to Program Counselors and Admissions Advisors, including but not limited to application, first-time program counseling and re-enrollment support, as well as providing as needed management responsibilities at Manitowoc and Sheboygan Learning Centers. This position is responsible for providing proactive high-quality program advising, both short- and long-term academic program and career planning, and degree program selection with a focus on student success towards degree completion. Services will guide students to meet employment and educational goals through job search assistance and/or college admissions. Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned):
(60%) Student Retention
- Proactively collaborate with college-wide departments, faculty, tutors, and academic support staff to advocate, identify, and meet the academic needs of students they advise.
- Assist with recruitment and retention activities in support of the college and its strategic enrollment management goals, including completion of activity reports.
- Conduct one-on-one and group advising sessions with students to create academic mapping plans for student success, address academic and personal concerns, early alerts, and provide referrals to Lakeshore support services as necessary.
- Utilize available technology to monitor academic progress of students toward degree and/or certificate completion.
- Collaborate with and provide backup support for admissions and program counseling using a holistic student support approach from application and first-time program counseling to degree completion.
- Serve as backup to carry out day-to-day management responsibilities at the Manitowoc and Sheboygan Learning Centers when needed.
- Counsel students who receive academic early alerts or are at risk of academic probation. Address and diffuse situations of conflict and crisis make appropriate referrals.
- Responsible for effective student coaching, specifically in the areas of guiding students with career advising and guided pathways, transfer information, goal setting, time management, self-advocacy, and study skills.
- Manage, research, and propose improvements based on student feedback.
- Cultivate student relationships through web inquiries, incoming phone calls, outreach, and referrals, which includes assistance to identify their educational and career goals.
- Host on- and off-campus visits and events for students, scheduled and drop-in appointments, and group advising sessions to assist students with program and course selection, registration, academic and career-goal planning, and financial aid, including some required evenings and weekends.
- Build and maintain relationships with Lakeshore stakeholders such as area high schools, community organizations, businesses, and program advisory boards to advocate and promote Lakeshore programs, courses, and services.
- Support and guide students through Lakeshore career assessment and development activities to assist in identifying career goals, including facilitation of Career Awareness sessions.
- Advise students regarding Adult Education and ELL programs, college admissions requirements, identifying student needs, and monitoring progression of assigned students through the student experience with a focus on Lakeshore Manitowoc, Lakeshore Sheboygan, and justice-involved students in the district.
- Develop and deliver Adult Education and ELL information programs, materials, and assist in new student orientation or intake.
- Provide career development services which may include but are not limited to; career assessment, personal statement review, mock interviewing, assessing trends in field, coaching search strategies for internships, co-ops and/or jobs, and resume and cover letter development.
- Responsible for creating, promoting, and facilitating workshops; leading activities in a variety of topics including, but not limited to, academic, social, career, personal, financial, and cultural.
- Be knowledgeable regarding relevant 4-year college articulation agreements and support student transition/transfer to continue their education.
- Bachelor's degree from regionally accredited college or university in a related discipline required.
- Three to five years of relevant occupational experience required.
