The Materials & Corrosion Engineer plays a vital role at BASF Corporation sites in North America, offering specialized knowledge in materials and corrosion. Working closely with a team, they enhance plant performance and reliability. Their duties encompass material selection, corrosion management, metallurgy, failure analysis, inspection, testing, and welding. Additionally, they spearhead global cooperation initiatives.

As a Senior Materials Engineer, Your Role Involves...
  • Collaborating with plant staff, technology experts, and engineers to make informed choices on materials and oversee welding procedures, coatings, linings, elastomers, and seals. Providing expert support on corrosion mechanisms, control strategies, and metallurgical aspects for various projects.
  • Driving strategic analyses, studies, and initiatives to ensure smooth plant operations and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Coordinating corrosion testing for material selection, assessing mechanical integrity, and validating new materials and processes.
  • Leading efforts in failure recovery, delivering expert advice on equipment repair and modification, conducting root cause failure analyses, and suggesting preventive measures. Collaborating with procurement and technical services to engage qualified material suppliers, fabricators, and inspection providers. Spearheading collaboration with BASF Engineering & Maintenance teams and global task forces to standardize work procedures, protocols, and material engineering best practices.
  • Overseeing corrosion testing, validation trials, failure recovery tasks, and providing guidance on equipment repairs and modifications.
  • Collaborating with procurement and technical services to align material engineering processes and technical inspection practices alongside BASF Engineering & Maintenance units and global teams.

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering (preferably) - related technical fields will also be considered.
  • Bring to the table over 6 years of experience in materials and corrosion engineering within the chemical or petrochemical sector.
  • Possess knowledge of industry standards, top practices, and operational workflows, along with the ability to work autonomously, influence stakeholders, and collaborate effectively.
  • Have proficiency in SAP (desirable) or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. Must be eligible to obtain a TWIC Card.
