Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.Audit clinical supply levels, communicating to Physician which items falls below par level.Cover front desk responsibilities as needed. Duties may include answering phones, scheduling and cancelling appointments, pre-registering and registering patients in Cerner, and preparing patient charts.Determine which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to have testing initiated. Escort all patients from the waiting room for data collection. Following testing, advise as to who will see them next and make the patient comfortable during wait. Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required. Communicate with reception and lead ophthalmic technician to facilitate proper patient flow.Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications. Participates in meetings and on committees and represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include: Visual Activity, Manual Lenometry, Confrontational Visual Fields, Stereo Testing, Evaluation of Motility, Pupillary Function Tests, Color Plates, Application Tonometry, Advanced Refractometry, Retinoscopy, Angle Assessment, Dilation of Pupils, Contact Lens Evaluations, Visual Field Testing, Optic Nerve Scanning (i.e. OCT, HRT, GDx), Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, A Scan and B Scan, Ophthalmic Imaging including Flourescein AngiographyProvide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills and patient care questions.Confirm patient's appointments by phone two business days in advance.Troubleshoot instruments as necessary, replacing bulbs, checking connections, performing archiving functions according to manufacturer recommendations, and reporting continued difficulty to Pcian.Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
