Job Description

The Occupational Therapy Department at Tennessee State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy.

We seek applicants who have practice experience in pediatric occupational therapy, including but not limited to:
outpatient pediatrics, early intervention, school system practice, and/or inpatient pediatric rehabilitation.

In addition, successful applicants will be competent in a secondary role of teaching/supervising research-related content (e.g., supervising student research projects).


Less frequent job responsibilities will include:
student advising; curriculum review and development; program evaluation; participation in service and research activities.


This opening offers the incumbent an opportunity to join the collegial faculty and staff at one of 7 OT programs housed in an Historically Black College/University (HBCU), and located along the Cumberland River just 10 minutes from the heart of downtown Nashville, TN.

The OT Department is housed in the College of Health Sciences, which offers numerous opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and is housed in a state-of-the-art facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Post-professional doctoral degree in occupational therapy or a combination of the following: bachelor's or master's degree in occupational therapy AND a doctorate in related field.

Currently licensed or eligible for TN occupational therapy license
Evidence of initial NBCOT certification. Current NBCOT certification is not required.
Teaching experience at the university level
At least 3 years of occupational therapy practice experience
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as student success.

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as an occupational therapy practitioner
