Remote, Oregon, United States The Harris Poll Full time

The Harris Poll is seeking a Research Manager to join the Media, Entertainment, and Technology team and create high-impact work that solves client challenges. Primary day-to-day responsibilities will revolve around driving and managing many different types of research engagements, including quantitative and qualitative, global and US-based, for media and entertainment clients especially. Our team focuses primarily on custom research projects, both among the general population as well as among members of clients' insight communities.

As Research Manager, you will manage end-to-end research projects (with Research Director partnership and oversight), from designing the research instrument to the first pass of data analysis to creating reports that are visually appealing and answer the client's business questions. Great writing and narrative storytelling are integral to success in this position; writing samples will be required during the interview process.

While this role will have ample team and company support, the ability and proclivity to be pro-active and autonomous is also critical.

Our day-to-day work and rhythms are dynamic and fast-paced but can be unpredictable, so the successful research manager will be able to help identify efficiencies, create processes, and jump in wherever needed, even occasionally into tasks or work that may normally sit with other team members.

The Media, Entertainment, and Technology team are based on the West Coast, so we are ideally looking for someone that can work PST hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead media/entertainment client interactions on most engagements, which may involve daily touchpoints
  • Bring strong analytical, narrative, and visual design skills to bear in creating reports and presenting results to clients and stakeholders
  • Translate data into the story (or stories) of a study through clear writing
  • Execute all aspects of the research process with excellence and independence, including devising a timeline and budget; helping to design studies and proposals; contributing hypothesizes that frame report planning; synthesizing data and analytics to create insights and narratives that drive actionable recommendations; presenting results to client teams
  • Manage projects (usually more than one at a time) by liaising with internal teams to make sure milestones are met and also by communicating with clients on progress
  • Own project tasks, proactively thinking of potential challenges and coming up with solutions
  • Develop questionnaires both from scratch and from client outlines to near-final or final drafts
  • Check survey links for quality and accuracy
  • Monitor field management, including validating early data, conducting regular bad case searches, and flexing quotas as needed
  • Create tab and analysis plans aligned with client objectives and lead regular communications with the advanced analytics team, when needed
  • Proactively support client research needs and goals, contributing innovative ideas and relevant solutions that exceed client expectations upon delivery
  • Possess broad market research experience and understanding of different methodologies and approaches and how those relate to specific client business needs
  • Consistently exceed client expectations and strengthen relationships to support team revenue growth
  • Lead both large-scale and quick-turn projects through collaboration with colleagues
  • Support strategic insight community initiatives
  • Execute project management and basic programming (Programming training and support is provided)

Skills and qualifications:

  • 3+ years relevant custom research experience, client or supplier side, with a focus on quantitative research
  • BA/BS with strong academic record
  • Roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and commitment to be flexible to get the job done
  • Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and act as the pace keeper across multiple projects ensuring deadlines are met
  • A strong attention to detail ensuring tasks are completed and deliverables are sent with accuracy and precision
  • Expertise in working with large complex data sets and comfort with finding the story behind the numbers
  • Strategic and big-picture thinking with both research objectives and internal team processes
  • Familiarity with complex research methodologies (MaxDiff design, conjoint analysis, and segmentations)
  • Experience in media and/or entertainment highly preferred, client or supplier side
  • An enthusiasm for keeping up with the latest news in the entertainment industry and an ability to relate entertainment and media clients and their research objectives to current industry trends
  • Excellent Microsoft Suite skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Google Slides) and writing skills
  • Excellent oral communication and client service skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work harmoniously and effectively within a team and across teams
  • Strong visual/aesthetic sensibility to bring to highly designed client deliverables
  • Some pluses would be: experience with technology clients, B2B research, specific interest in trend hunting and noticing new cultural happenings as they emerge, familiarity with SPSS, experience with qualitative research design and reporting
