Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant , MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study - Georgetown University Medical Center

The MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) is a national collaborative effort to learn more about the impact of chronic health conditions on those living with HIV. The Washington DC consortium is made up of two institutions under the leadership of Georgetown University: Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC), and the Inova Juniper Program.

Job Overview

The Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant has an essential role in the research process, carrying out the research data collection in duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Setting up the examination rooms
  • Explaining procedures to participants
  • Obtaining vital signs, height/weight, body composition measurements, and other specimen collections
  • Performing blood draws on participants
  • Completing documentation and associated paperwork
  • Administering administer questionnaires of a sensitive nature Processing laboratory specimens
  • Transcribing laboratory results
  • Assisting providers with components of the physical and gynecological exam
  • Ordering and stocking medical supplies
  • Traveling once per week between the two MWCCS sites: Georgetown University Medical and Inova Juniper in Fairfax, Virginia

    Work Interactions

    Reporting to the medical team leader, Assistant Project Director and Project Director, the Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant functions autonomously and also collaborates cohesively with physicians, other members of the research team, and research participants.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
    • A certificate of completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
    • At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience and related excellent phlebotomy skills
    • Currency in adult CPR/AED.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to perform basic medical assistant functions as described in job overview
    • Documentation and computer skills

      The candidate selected for hire will be provided for other research procedures and laboratory processing.
