About the role

Contentsquare is looking for a self-starting, highly motivated Director of Product Design to lead the design of our Product Analytics offering.

Design at Contentsquare bucks expectations of "enterprise software," adopting contemporary, user- and human-centered practices. The Director of Product Design will lead a team of Product Designers to create product analytics tools that actually make sense to regular people.

We're looking for a leader with a strong diplomatic bent, using their relationship skills to bring non-designers into the work. As the design leader of one of four product units at the company, it will be important to work closely with your counterparts to create and uphold values and quality standards while striving to create a consistent experience for our customers.

Additionally, the Director of Product Design looks after the people in their team, through mentorship, creative direction, professional development, and career-building.

The Director of Product Design has broad and deep organizational support to ship high quality products. Contentsquare has leadership throughout product development that are hungry for smart user-centered practices, active product discovery, and maintaining a high bar for quality. This role has advocates in high places.

What you'll do

  • All the people management for a team of Product Designers, including 1:1s, professional development, performance reviews, etc.
  • Recruit and hire product designers, staff freelancers and contractors as needed
  • Lead the creative efforts across the Product Analytics offering, establishing a vision for where the work is headed, and establishing a shared understanding of quality
  • Partner with cross-functional peers (e.g., product management, engineering, data), to plan the best approaches for delivery of quality user experiences
  • Seamlessly shift between big picture strategy and the most minute details of delivery, connecting efforts at all levels of abstraction
  • Drive UX research and content practices, in collaboration with Product Researchers and Content Design leads
  • Uphold quality standards in the face of myriad pressures such as timelines, feedback, and workloads
  • Keep designers (and cross-functional peers) focused on the product and business objectives, ensuring relevance in their work

The profile we're looking for

  • Prior experience with managing teams of at least 5 people in a remote-first environment
  • Prior experience with successful collaboration with Product Management and Engineering at director and VP levels
  • B2B experience, across a range of customer sizes: small business, medium, and enterprise
  • Experience designing data and information visualization tools for people ranging from neophyte to power-user
  • Success in leading design within a Product-Led Growth (PLG) environment
  • Demonstrated leadership throughout a user-centered design process, from upfront research, insights and strategy, through ideation, prototyping, and detailed delivery
  • Success at leading across an Engineering-Product-Design triad, bringing a range of people into the design process, and successfully engaging stakeholders and executives
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, brings clarity to uncertainty
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, clearly articulating the rationale behind design decisions
  • We're not looking for an MBA, but we do seek someone comfortable with the language of business, who is data driven and can tie design team effort to product and business outcomes
  • Orderly and organized, adept at planning and program management, maintaining team effectiveness across teams within the product
  • Comfortable structuring and planning design work in cross-functional contexts
  • Eager mentor and capable educator, driven to spread practice understanding throughout the broader team
