At the full performance level, major duties include:

  • Uses oral forms of communication to provide communication access for oral deaf or hard of hearing individuals and uses tactile forms of English, American Sign Language (ASL), Contact Variety Sign (CVS) and Manually Coded English (MCE) to interpret/transliterate for individuals who are deaf-blind as needed.
  • Simultaneously and consecutively interprets/transliterates, with equal facility in rendering from American Sign Language (ASL), Contact Variety Sign (CVS), and Manually Coded English (MCE) to English and from English to the aforementioned sign languages.
  • Interprets/transliterates for deaf/hard of hearing employees and hearing persons engaged in specialized meetings, seminars or training programs that utilize technical vocabularies and terminology unique to those fields (technical financial terminology, computer technical language).
  • Assists the Branch Chief and Disability Program Manager in processing requests for reasonable accommodation and other projects related to the disability employment program.
  • Assists in performing other duties with the Affirmative Employment, Diversity and Inclusion Branch that support the promotion of affirmative employment and diversity and inclusion in the FDIC.
  • Plans, conducts and implements sign language instruction for employees at the beginner, intermediate, and/or advanced levels. May also develop and conduct workshops and/or presentations for managers about the integration of deaf and hard of hearing employees into FDIC and internal organizational cultures.
