Primary Duties:

1. Provides oral language interpreting between patients, MWHC medical professionals, personnel and patient's family or representatives.

2. Provides patient advocacy support, such as assisting with the completion of medical forms, working with social workers to obtain Medicaid, etc.

3. Performs a variety of administrative and clerical tasks including, but not limited to: entering appointments in the schedule, scheduling agency interpreters, managing calls via line, etc

4. Assists in the identification of service needs for admitted, new and incoming LEP patients and facilitates other aspects of service delivery.

5. Provides training and in-services to hospital staff and departments on Standards of Practice and Cultural insights.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or GED required.

· Degree in higher education preferred.

· Minimum of 40-hr Medical Interpreting Training with language proficiency required.

· Minimum of 6 hours of Medical Interpreting Continuing Education Units (CEUs) within the past year preferred.

· Fluency in English and Target language with familiarity with medical terminology required.

· 1-2 years of medical interpreting experience required.

· Certified Medical Interpreters - CMI required or Certif Healthcare Interpreter - CHI required or Equivalent State Certification (i.e. DHHS, CHIA...) required.
