Summary

This role is part of the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch within Fleet Readiness, under the Commander of Navy Installations Command (CNIC) at SUBASE New London in Groton, CT. The position involves lifeguard duties to ensure the safety of individuals at the designated work area and contributes to Aquatic training, education, and general support at the facility.


Duties

Pool and/or Waterfront Lifeguard responsibilities make up 60% of the role, including but not limited to:

  • Supervising swimmers/patrons and activities, maintaining safety, and responding to emergencies.
  • Monitoring and addressing any potential hazards or safety concerns in the area.
  • Performing water rescues, administering CPR or first aid when necessary.
  • Conducting pool chemical tests and maintaining proper chemical levels.
  • Recording marine life, water, and weather conditions.

General duties constitute 40% of the role, involving:

  • Conducting aquatic assessments and certifications as per established policies.
  • Orienting users with necessary equipment.
  • Verifying patron identification and handling fees.
  • Coordinating with security and medical personnel during emergencies.
  • Performing maintenance tasks and facility upkeep.
  • Inspecting and ensuring safety standards of equipment and facilities.
  • Utilizing emergency equipment and enforcing facility policies.
  • Preparing detailed reports during incidents and promptly reporting emergencies.
  • Handling hazardous materials responsibly.
