Extraordinary teams building inspiring projects:

Since 1898, we have helped customers complete more than 25,000 projects in 160 countries on all seven continents that have created jobs, grown economies, improved the resiliency of the world's infrastructure, increased access to energy, resources, and vital services, and made the world a safer, cleaner place.

Differentiated by the quality of our people and our relentless drive to deliver the most successful outcomes, we align our capabilities to our customers' objectives to create a lasting positive impact. We serve the Infrastructure; Nuclear, Security & Environmental; Energy; Mining & Metals, and the Manufacturing and Technology markets. Our services span from initial planning and investment, through start-up and operations.

Core to Bechtel is our Vision, Values and Commitments. They are what we believe, what customers can expect, and how we deliver. Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.

Project Overview:

Bechtel Enterprises is the project development, investment, and financing arm of Bechtel. We develop projects, lead project M&A activities, and provide project financing services across power, energy, transportation, and other sectors. We have developed or co-developed over 70 projects ($46 billion in project costs) and have helped arrange over $54 billion in financing for Bechtel projects, including over 18,000MW of power projects across 10 countries. Bechtel Enterprises is headquartered in Reston, Virginia and has offices in Houston, New York, London, Singapore, and Washington, D.C.

Bechtel has played a pivotal role in clean energy for decades, delivering more than 100,000MW of nuclear and hydro generation capacity globally, as well as landmark renewable energy projects such as Ivanpah Solar and California Valley Solar Ranch. Today, the foundation of our clean energy strategy is developing and building "core renewables" projects (solar PV, wind, and solar + battery storage), in addition to advancing work in nuclear, hydro and newer technologies (clean hydrogen, carbon capture, long duration storage).

To drive Bechtel's clean energy strategy, in 2020 we formed CleanGen, Inc. CleanGen is Bechtel's wholly owned clean energy development platform which is part of Bechtel Enterprises. CleanGen is currently focused on developing greenfield utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and hybrid projects in the U.S., with medium-term goals to expand internationally. By combining the development expertise of CleanGen with Bechtel's EPC capabilities, our mission is to efficiently create (i.e., develop, engineer, construct) high quality new clean energy assets for electricity buyers and owner/operators around the world.

Job Summary:

Joining the CleanGen team as an Associate Development Manager is an opportunity to be an important member of a lean but fast-growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well-funded corporation. We are looking for a talented and energetic individual to support utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and hybrid project development across the US.

The position will be responsible for supporting the full suite of development activities for existing projects in the CleanGen portfolio and new projects (new greenfield sites and acquisition targets). This will include site identification and site control, interconnection and transmission work, project permitting, and community engagement. The position will work closely with our internal power marketing/origination, project finance, legal, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams as the position's assigned projects advance through a final notice to proceed to construction.

  • Help identify new development prospects and opportunities (greenfield sites and/or acquisition targets), including conducting market assessments, fatal flaw analyses, and in-person site reconnaissance
  • Secure site control for development prospects (e.g., negotiating leases, easements, and conducting initial site reconnaissance) and coordinate landowner interface
  • Support local, state, regional and/or federal permitting processes
  • Support interconnection and transmission activities
  • Support project design, working closely with the internal Bechtel engineering teams
  • Support financial analysis, modeling, power pricing and offtake structuring
  • Manage tasks according to budget and schedule
  • Create and maintain project maps, databases, reporting tools, and tracking tools for assigned projects
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel as necessary (expected to be 25%+ of time)
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in technical/engineering or business/finance related field
  • Experience leading project development activities for renewables or other power projects preferred
  • Experience with both solar and wind project development (battery storage an additional plus) preferred
  • Experience working with project engineering and EPC teams
  • Experience in multiple U.S. markets such as ERCOT, MISO, PJM, and SPP
