The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Clinical to join the expanding Palliative Medicine program to provide clinical services at both University of Cincinnati Medical Center and West Chester Hospital.

The individual will provide palliative care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and further the College of Medicine mission through opportunities to participate in education, innovation, and scholarship within the field of palliative medicine.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities in the areas of clinical care, teaching, scholarship, innovation, and leadership as follows:

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary palliative medicine team to provide palliative medicine services at UCMC and WCH.
  • Share on call responsibilities including overnight and weekend home call.
  • Attend Palliative Medicine team meetings.
  • Participate in service building and expansion initiatives.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Serve on hospital committees as needed.
  • Utilize shared/split visits as indicated when collaborating with Advance Practice Providers.
  • Contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • Supervise, teach, and provide feedback for Medical Students and Residents on Palliative Medicine electives.
  • Give lectures as part of the palliative medicine education series.
  • Provide education and serve as a resource for all healthcare workers in area of clinical expertise.
  • On average, each core faculty member is anticipated to complete two scholarly activities per year in any of the following areas: curriculum development; performance improvement; research; regional and national presentations; publications; peer review.
Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Ohio Medical License and DEA license.
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
or
a minimum of 10 years' experience providing sub-specialty palliative medicine services in the hospital setting.

  • The skills to provide palliative care for a diverse population of adults including the ability to
lead family meetings, goals of care discussions, and end-of-life discussions with cultural humility; c

omplete psychosocial and spiritual assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team; m

anage
pain and non-pain symptoms that accompany life-limiting illness; p

rovide end-of-life care.

  • Understanding of hospice eligibility criteria.
