This position serves as the Section Chief of the Mental Health Section (MHS) for the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC).

The Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS) is a Joint Commission-accredited, complexity level 1A facility, covering central and southern Virginia and parts of northern North Carolina, serving more than 200,000 Veterans from 52 cities and counties.

This position reports directly to the Director of Clinical Services (DCS) of Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC) and expected to work closely in conjunction with the parent facility's, Richmond VAMC, Mental Health leadership to ensure collaboration and alignment to reach collective goals of CVHCS.


Duties May Include:
Responsible for developing strategic plans, policies, procedures, and organizational structures required to fulfill the Section's mission.

Works closely with peers in other services/sections and management to meet the needs of the System's recognized internal and external customer groups.

Responsible to ensure all residency, intern, and fellowship training program mandates are met in coordination with discipline service/section chiefs and program coordinators, internally and externally.

Knowledgeable of VA, VHA, VISN, CVHCS, and FxHCC goals, missions, and priorities to assure a positive impact on programs and resources.

Responsible for overall MHS clinical and administrative operations currently structured around a program management model and with a clinical emphasis on the Psychosocial Recovery Model and Evidence Based Medical and Psychological Treatment.

Directs all activities of the MHS, to include budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, clinical end administrative program development, management and evaluation of services and programs, and ensuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated to provide optimum utilization of resources.

Participates in management discussions, policymaking, provides program direction to other directors, managers, and assigned personnel within the MHS and makes sound decisions in line with law, federal regulations, and policy

Establishes MHS objectives congruent with and reflective of the philosophy and objectives of VA, VHA, VISN 6 and the FxHCC.

Develops short-term and long-term goals and programs required to meet stated objectives and directs the planning and operations of the MHS to complement attainment of the established System goals and objectives.

Develops program evaluation methodology and analytical processes to provide on-going monitoring and improvements in program effectiveness, organizational productivity, operational efficiency, performance measure success, Veteran satisfaction, and resource utilization.

Performs all other duties as assigned

Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).


Paid Time Off:
