The Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express' revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the optimal pricing to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive GMNS revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.

The Finance Manager, Planning & Forecasting - Pricing is responsible for the forecasting and reporting of merchant discount rate. This role provides a unique opportunity to have an impact across multiple businesses and segments by balancing the organization's goal for profitable charge volume and merchant expansion, essential to the strength of our business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain knowledge of the payments industry, as well as exposure to and insight from senior leaders across American Express. The Manager should be a dynamic individual who can partner closely with senior leaders and has the right ambition to drive change.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform forensics on key Discount Rate drivers to assess sensitivity of various business practices and trendsDevelop and implement roadmap for process standardization/ improvements for all reporting and forecasting related activitiesPartner with Tech to support build and implementation of TM1 Discount Rate transformationSupport the creation of Merchant Discount Rate forecasts and track monthly performance against forecast by identifying drivers of varianceBuild a comprehensive Discount Rate data repository globally to understand past performance and inform future pricing strategies Support external audits by researching identified issues, partnering with the regional business teams that manage the merchant relationship, and working through to resolution Qualifications 4+ years' experience in financial services, payments industry, or other finance related roles is desiredBachelor's degree in required; Finance/Accounting/Business desired. MBA/Graduate degree is a plusHigh proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint is required.SQL and/or SAS data querying is requiredSuccess in quantitative data analysis methods and data mining Strong strategic thinker with the ability to translate trends and analysis into actionable recommendationsStrong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of financial dataStrong attention to detailStrong relationship management and collaboration skills with the ability to influence others in situations where there may be different goalsExcellent communication skills – both written and oral - with experience leading discussions with senior leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presentedSelf-starter who excels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that places a premium on driving resultsCreative thinker who is willing to question traditional ways of doing things and develop new approaches to old challenges.
