Summary In this position you will serve as a Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist, within Federal Emergency Management Agency, Regional Offices, Region 9, Response Division.

The ideal candidate for this position will assist in directing and managing the development of action plans in support of FEMA's mission; direct and manage the collection, assessment, and analysis of information on the impact of imminent and actual disasters.

Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist (Response).


Typical assignments include:

Ensuring that guidance is focused on emergency response and complying with emergency management related directives, regulations, policies, laws, standards and guidance in order to provide response capabilities that address multiple hazard scenarios.

Overseeing the development and documentation of short and long-range planning efforts including deliberate and crisis planning initiatives. Performing work that involves the coordination of emergency response and preparedness training, exercises, and local assistance.

Serving as an expert consultant and staff advisor to the Regional Response Division Director on assigned program areas of responsibility.

Performing as a spokesperson at nation-wide conferences, meetings, committees and working groups that propose, defend and/or criticize continuity and emergency response criteria, in order to promote and maintain a pro-active response posture.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

To qualify for this position at the GS-14 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

Planning and coordinating major national programs related to disasters, community preparedness and emergency management; and, Collaborating and partnering with Federal, State, and local officials on established laws, directives, regulations, policies and guidance; and, Leading and providing senior level program expertise to executive leadership and professional staff at headquarters and regional levels.
