Job Description:

  • Serve as financial advisor to the President & CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board, providing recommendations and creating a long-term strategy for the organization's financial stability based on strategic financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling.
  • Own all finance functions, including accounting, internal control, reconciliation, allocations, grant expenditure reporting, journal entries, payroll, monthly closing procedures, and other regularly recurring financial operations.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget and multi-year budgets aligned with our strategic goals, training staff on budgeting as needed and effectively communicating overall budget to full staff.
  • Build business models and forecasting tools that allow for long-term scenario planning and real-time decision making, and that maximize the organization's impact and revenue.
  • Manage resources and oversee business operations in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Lead the annual audit, liaising with external auditors and accountants to ensure compliance, including leading preparation and filing of the annual financial statements and tax form 990.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy and usefulness of all financial reports, including budget-to-actuals and financial reports for the Board, funders, government agencies, internal decision-makers and for grants-management processes, including the tracking of restricted funds.
  • Along with the Chief Operating Officer, negotiate, monitor, and manage all external vendor and banking relationships.
  • Ensure business practices, including fiscal and human resources, comply with federal, state, and local agency requirements.

Qualifications/Skills:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or similar field
  2. 10+ years of experience within the accounting/finance sector
  3. 5+ years of experience managing the financial processes in a non-profit setting
  4. Exposure to grant reporting, reimbursements, budgeting, financial compliance, etc.
  5. Proficiency within MS Excel, SharePoint, NetSuite (or a similar ERP software)
  6. Ability to take full ownership of the finance/accounting functions
  7. Outgoing personality and strong communication skills to develop internal and external relationships

Details/Additional Information:

  • This position will be a hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in the company's Newark, NJ office and 2 days per week remote.
