Vaco is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to assist our client. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance within the home building industry. This role is responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and providing strategic financial insights to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
    • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
    • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions.
  • Cost Accounting:
    • Implement and manage cost accounting systems to track project costs accurately.
    • Analyze cost variances and provide actionable insights to management.
    • Ensure accurate job costing and timely reporting of project profitability.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis:
    • Collaborate with the CFO and executive team to develop and execute financial strategies.
    • Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses.
    • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and audits.
    • Liaise with external auditors and prepare necessary documentation for annual audits.
  • Systems and Process Improvement:
    • Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Implement new accounting software and systems as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
    • CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the home building or construction industry.
    • Experience in a Controller role or similar capacity.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, COINS).
    • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
