Travel Camp Counselor

Each summer, the Girl Scouts of Alaska camp team from across the U.S. works together toward one common mission — to help every girl who attends camp develop courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.


• The Rural Alaska Program is a traveling day camp where Counselors fly between rural villages in small planes or ferry in Southeast and Southwest Alaska.

$17.25/hr +$675 travel stipend* + lodging

Full season dates: May 24-August 11

Our camp creates a community that helps girls unlock their potential while developing life skills. Traveling day camp is in communities throughout southeast and southwest Alaska.

Work with a staff partner to plan and deliver outdoor activities to girls ages 5-18. Group size varies by community, from 20-60 girls. Create and lead original, age-appropriate activities that totally engage your campers.

Staff Qualifications

  • Excellent character
  • Enthusiastic, kind and gritty
  • Willing to create an inclusive environment. Simply put, drama, gossip, cliques or mean girl behavior are not tolerated at our camp
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification (or can obtain before camp)
  • Wilderness First Aid preferred
  • 18 years old unless noted

We hold our staff to extremely high standards because our goal is to create a team who can change the world. You'll be with others who are passionate about positively impacting kids' lives and making the world a better place.

Your travel stipend is evenly split between each paycheck. Like all pay, taxes, social security, and medicare are taken from travel stipends.

Applicants must make a commitment for the full dates of employment, be at least 18 years old, possess excellent character, exert enthusiasm, patience, and understanding, work from a place of positivity, and are solution-oriented. All camp staff are required to be fully vaccinated, including up to date COVID-19 vaccinations.
