About the Role:
We are seeking a Principal Product Manager with a focus on customer needs and data analysis to join our Payroll Engine team. This team is dedicated to innovating and enhancing our Payroll product, overseeing customer experiences, compliance, taxes, payments, filings, and more. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Engineers, Designers, Data Scientists, Compliance, Legal, and Operations teams to shape strategy, develop products, and contribute to Gusto's success.
About the Team:
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, along with experience in a regulated industry and building complex products at scale. They should also have a background in leading large engineering and cross-functional teams, and the ability to balance business, product, and technical objectives in team strategies and roadmaps.
Here's what you'll do day-to-day:

  • Tackle complex challenges in a regulated industry by collaborating with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Compliance, Legal, and other teams
  • Set goals and strategies, then translate them into a roadmap and requirements to align with partners and stakeholders
  • Analyze and improve key product and business metrics
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization
  • Oversee the product development process from concept to launch, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products that exceed customer expectations and drive significant business impact


Here's what we're looking for:

  • 7+ years of product management experience, with a focus on customer-centric products
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of building business models and prioritizing effectively
    • Ability to develop and track metrics for successful feature launches
    • Experience implementing large-scale features and improvements for mature products
    • Detail-oriented, proactive, and well-organized
  • Experience working on technically complex products and balancing technical and product goals
  • Ability to drive execution across teams while fostering collaboration and garnering support at all levels
  • Proficient in resolving complex problems with actionable solutions
  • Previous experience in a regulated industry or Payroll is advantageous
    • Preference for candidates with experience at rapidly growing companies


Gusto has office locations in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees in these areas are expected to work from the office approximately 2-3 days per week, with similar expectations for Symmetry roles in Scottsdale.
Please note: Office requirements for San Francisco include the San Jose metro area.
