Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a part-time Coordinator, Early Head Start Health for the Child and Family Research Center. UNR Early Head Start maintains a Health Education Coordinator to provide guidance to low-income women and children. This position provides medical oversight to ensure program participants and staff receive necessary and required health care per established performance standards. The position makes classroom and home site visits, makes referrals to physicians, and coordinates the immunization programs.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

Oversee and monitor health care requirements for program participants
  • Conduct check-ins with program participants by securing and reviewing health records, seek clarification from physicians when needed; ensure participants are meeting guidelines
  • Create and maintain a secure database to maintain health records in program database
  • Identify each child's nutritional health needs, taking into account health records, family and staff concerns, special dietary requirements, allergies and community nutrition issues as identified through a community assessment
  • Monitor due and past due health events required for program participants, specified by age, and communicate and provide resources and information to families to ensure their children are up to date with specified guidelines
  • Facilitate and monitor necessary oral health preventative care, treatment and follow-up for program participants; facilitate and provide fluoride supplements
  • Evaluate and facilitate proper response to medical issues in the classroom as they arise
  • Determine and decide when to exclude children from care due to being out of compliance
Facilitate access to healthcare
  • Serve as liaison to the family and assist families in finding a Primary Care provider; work with health care providers to determine openings and help families schedule appointments
  • Serve as a liaison to the family and assist families in identifying a specialist, as needed
  • Research and gather appropriate resources to reference to families
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of related work experience; OR

Master's degree and two (2) years of related work experience

Related Experience: Knowledge and experience serving young children and their families in the community; experience in a nursing, human development and family studies, public health or early childhood education field.

Certification and Licensure

CPR Certified to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
