Consistently practices customer service performance expectations consistent with the I CARE (Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence) Values of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group level to improve care. Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care.
Uses sound clinical judgment in ensuring the delivery of care to the patient population on assigned area(s).
Guides staff in the implementation of the nursing process in caring for patients.
Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process.

Organizes care delivery in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a manner that promotes continuity and accountability for patient care.

Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided.
Develops/evaluates programs for optimizing patient care on assigned area(s).
Encourages staff participation in program and care planning.
Assists the Nurse Manager with input into the development of Nursing Service philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures. Is responsible for assuring that unit philosophy, objectives, and necessary policies and procedures are developed in consultation with others.
Implements policies and procedures in the area(s) and monitors compliance by staff members. Initiates and implements corrective action as indicated.
