Summary

The position will be appointed to the Medical Staff of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) and will serve as a clinical diagnostic radiologist as well as the Service Chief of Medical Imaging. Incumbent will provide interpretive and patient care services within the scope of radiology and will have other administrative, supervisory, committee(s) and educational responsibilities.



Duties

FUNCTIONS:

  1. A supervisory role, the Chief of Medical Imaging position encompasses the breadth of clinical care, including inpatient consultation, outpatient services and departmental management including oversight of other LIP's, staff, and trainees. Specific areas to the Service include Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology, and Musculoskeletal (MSK) procedures.
  2. Responsible for all aspects of Medical Imaging Services throughout VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS).
  3. Serves as a general diagnostic radiologist, interpreting the different types of radiology examinations are covered by the Radiology Service (MRI, CT, diagnostic ultrasound, and general radiology.
  4. Responsible for establishing and applying imaging protocols, reviewing imaging requests, utilization management, ensuring appropriate patient preparations and medication are ordered, technical oversight and feedback for the technologists performing the examinations, overall safety of imaging patients including oversight of contrast administration and response to adverse patient reactions.
  5. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide all general diagnostic imaging services.
  6. Possess sufficient computer skills necessary to work with advanced electronic medical records, PACS, and voice recognition systems.
  7. General computer skills to a high extent of proficiency is suggested, and strongly preferred.
  8. Responsible for establishing, documenting, and maintaining standard procedures related to Imaging, for the facility (through Medical Center Memoranda MCMs) and for the Radiology Service (through Standard Operating Procedures).
  9. Provides consultative service for referring providers, provide comparative reports as requested and participate in clinical conferences and committees.
  10. Lead or delegates quality control/quality management activities including department and facility level peer review activities.
  11. Responsible for establishing and applying imaging protocols, reviewing imaging requests, utilization management, ensuring appropriate patient preparations and medication are ordered, technical oversight and feedback for the technologists performing the examinations, overall safety of imaging patients including oversight of contrast administration and response to adverse patient reactions.
  12. Participates in non-clinical activities expected of a Service Chief.
Preferred Experience: Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology is preferred.
