Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking a mid-level mining hydrogeologist to help build our business and grow our team of professionals that deliver services to the mining industry in areas related to hydrogeologic characterization, mine water management, feasibility studies, environmental permitting, and mine reclamation. Project responsibilities may include designing complex mine water management studies and programs involving the collection and evaluation of hydrogeological field data; providing technical guidance on operational mine water management issues; and working with multidisciplinary teams (geochemists, hydrogeologists, hydrologists, engineers) on modeling studies. In addition, the person in this role will help establish our capabilities with our local mining partners and assist in building our presence in the western mining market. Business development activities will include interacting with clients/potential clients to identify and develop new project opportunities, maintaining strong client relationships, developing proposals, and networking with others in the industry at conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering or a closely related discipline5 years of relevant work experience, including at least five years in the mining sectorDemonstrated client-relationship and business development skillsDemonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading multidisciplinary teamsExperience designing and implementing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including drilling and well construction, standard field sampling procedures for soil, rock, sediments, surface water and groundwater, and aquifer testsFamiliarity with the use of hydrogeologic data to support groundwater model development and calibration, including working experience with numerical groundwater modeling software such as MODFLOW, MOLDFLOW-SUFACT, Groundwater Vistas, or FEFLOWExperience developing technical analyses to support permitting and mine operations to mine closureStrong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and attention to detailA flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needsWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needsL egal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futureV alid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeologyProfessional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one jurisdiction or ability to become licensed within one yearExperience or coursework in groundwater chemistry and solute fate and transportExperience with mine dewatering design and operations including pit slope depressurization, general dewatering practices and site-wide water managementRecognized expertise in mining hydrogeology, demonstrated by regularly presenting at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journalsEstablished network with area clients

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position will be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
