Job Overview:

Position Summary:

Barr Engineering Company is in search of a mid-level hydrogeologist specializing in mining to enhance our team of experts dedicated to providing services in the mining sector. This role focuses on hydrogeologic assessment, mine water management, feasibility analysis, environmental compliance, and mine rehabilitation. Responsibilities may encompass the design of intricate mine water management studies and programs, which include the collection and analysis of hydrogeological field data. The selected candidate will offer technical advice on operational mine water management challenges and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (including geochemists, hydrogeologists, hydrologists, and engineers) on modeling initiatives. Additionally, this position will play a crucial role in establishing our expertise with local mining partners and expanding our footprint in the western mining sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with clients and potential clients to identify and cultivate new project opportunities.
  • Maintain robust client relationships and develop proposals.
  • Network with industry professionals at conferences.
  • Lead the design and execution of hydrogeologic field investigations, including drilling and well construction.
  • Utilize hydrogeologic data to support groundwater model development and calibration.
  • Conduct technical analyses to assist in permitting and mine operations through to closure.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with at least five years in the mining industry.
  • Proven client relationship management and business development skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in designing and implementing hydrogeologic field investigation activities.
  • Familiarity with numerical groundwater modeling software such as MODFLOW or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work independently and collaboratively to meet project demands.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with a focus on hydrogeology.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within a year.
  • Experience or coursework in groundwater chemistry and transport processes.
  • Expertise in mine dewatering design and operations.
  • Recognized authority in mining hydrogeology, with a history of presentations and publications.
  • Established professional network within the mining sector.

Work Arrangement:
A hybrid work model may be considered for this position, allowing for a combination of office and remote work.

Note: This role may involve working in challenging environments typical of construction sites, including the need to lift or move field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided. Participation in a drug screening program may be required by certain clients.
