Job Summary

The Student Site Coordinators have leadership responsibility for the safety, coordination,
and support of Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars attending the Summer Institutes at the
University of Kentucky from June 9-13, 2024. The safety and security of the Scholars
during the Summer Institute is a serious responsibility that must be the major priority of the Student Site Coordinators. The Summer Institute Student Site Coordinators serve as
role models and representatives for the University of Kentucky. The Student Site
Coordinators report to the Program Coordinator (Assistant Director of the Martin Luther
King Center) and work in conjunction and collaboration with the Whitney M. YOUNG
Scholars Program Site Coordinators from the Lincoln Foundation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • PREFERENCE GIVEN TO STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY

ENROLLED FULLTIME

  • This is a live-in position for the duration of the program. The Student Site Coordinator
remains on-site with Scholars 24 hours a day coordinating/monitoring during the course
of the Summer Institute. This role includes coaching and mentoring the scholars and
supporting the Program Coordinator and Lincoln Foundation Site Coordinators as
needed.

  • Remain s accessible by cell phone for calls and text messages at all times.
  • Refrains from being isolated or alone behind closed doors with a Scholar.
  • Accompanies Scholars leaving campus for any reason outside scheduled events (e.g.,
restaurants, movie, field trips, etc.).

  • Knows the whereabouts of all Scholars at all times.
  • Establishes and enforces curfew each night is 11:00 P.M. Room check must be
conducted each night to ensure curfew compliance.

  • Meets with Program Coordinator prior to program s tart date and as needed.
  • Commit to knowledge of the program's established schedule, helping to ensure that
scholars are in the right place at the right times.

  • Works with Lincoln Foundation Site Coordinators to provide consequences to Scholars
for behavior that may range from a verbal warning to dismissal from the program
depending on the severity of the infraction.

  • Endeavors to build rapport with the Scholars and get to know each of them as
individuals

  • Participates in all classroom and extracurricular activities with the Scholars responsible
for managing Scholar participation and behavior.

  • Reads, understands, and commits to compliance with UK Administrative Regulation
6:12 – Minors Involved in University-Sponsored Programs or Programs Held at the
University.

  • Collaborates and communicates with the other Student Site Coordinator and Lincoln
Foundation Cite Coordinators as well as the Program Coordinator and must maintain a
united front. The Student Site Coordinators will not undermine the authority of the
Lincoln Foundation Site Coordinator, University of Kentucky, Program Coordinator, or
Lincoln Foundation leadership.

  • Provides feedback at the end of the summer educational program focusing on
outcomes, opportunities, challenges and recommendations.

  • Preference for applicants who are certified and/or willing to be certified to drive an 12-passenger van
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
