Position Summary
The Laboratory Support Division provides quality instruction for courses required by limited-entry programs in Health Sciences and the Associate of Science Degree in Biology. This position currently reports to the Laboratory Support Division Manager. The position is located at either the West Charleston, North Las Vegas, or Henderson campus. However, multi-campus travel is required.
Under direct supervision, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Setting up laboratory materials and equipment necessary for labs in general biology and anatomy and physiology.
- Handling live and preserved microbe, plant, and animal specimens.
- Preparing media and chemical solutions.
- Using equipment such as microscopes, PCR thermocyclers, electrophoresis chambers, spectrophotometers, pH meters and analytical probes, environmental
chambers, scales / balances, autoclaves, incubators and hot plates, centrifuges
and mixers. - Replenishing and maintaining inventory of supplies.
- Maintaining clean, safe laboratory areas.
- Properly handling, storing, and disposing hazardous materials including biological waste.
- Coordinating with the supervisor, other Staff Research Associates, Academic Faculty, and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
- Must be able to work with various chemicals and equipment and to handle, store, and dispose, of various hazardous chemicals and biological materials in accordance with appropriate regulations/procedures
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and one year of professional experience in a research laboratory; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Staff Research Associate I in Nevada State service.
Classified Grade 31, Step 1 $49,047.12
Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC , salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
