Duties

The Deputy Chief of Staff serves as a principal advisor and representative of the Administrator, Deputy Administrator (DADM), and Chief of Staff, and assists the Chief of Staff with operations for TSA. The Deputy Chief of Staff also assists the Chief of Staff in leading the organization's policy analysis and enhances communications and thorough understanding of issues between TSA, its stakeholders, the traveling public, DHS, and the interagency.

High level duties include:

  • Assisting the Chief of Staff in overseeing the integration and execution of TSA policies, processes, and enterprise-wide activities. Resolves cross-organizational challenges and maintains strong relationships with senior executives throughout the agency.
  • Serving as the most senior career official within the TSA Front Office and as Acting Chief of Staff in the absence of the Chief of Staff.
  • Assisting the Chief of Staff in devising and articulating TSA priorities, shaping the employee culture, setting policy and resource priorities, and supporting the work force.
  • Leading coordination efforts among all Direct Reports (DR) offices, to include consistent engagement and communication with DR Assistant Administrators (AA) and Deputy AAs, to ensure priorities, resource requirements, and budgets are in line with guidance from the Deputy Administrator and Chief of Staff.
  • Representing the Chief of Staff and the Direct Reports organization in agency-wide forums and governing entities such as the Deputy Action Group; the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, Execution, and Strategy process; Real-Estate Management Board; Management Control Council; Executive Risk Steering Committee; and others as assigned.
  • Developing, coordinating, resolving, and implementing a wide-variety of priorities, initiatives, and projects which are often mission essential and/or highly sensitive.
  • Reviews and edits policy documents, correspondence, reports, and messaging originated by the various lines of business and staff offices within TSA, as well as comments made by TSA staff on proposed legislation to ensure that it is reflective of TSA's priorities and objectives.
  • Attending high-level DHS and interagency meetings on behalf of the Chief of Staff and assures that TSA's views are represented, and that essential information is reported back accurately and followed through to completion. Meetings and contacts are both internal and external at the senior executive level.
