Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
College Counseling

• Function as the lead expert in college counseling at Oakwood in designing a
comprehensive and dynamic college counseling program and pedagogy for
students in grades 9 – 12

• Lead and implement college counseling tools and systems, e.g., Cialfo, College
Kickstart, etc. for students, parents, and colleagues

• Maintain accurate record-keeping and data management

• Collaborate with Oakwood's leadership team to design programs and
workshops for students and families, including on paying for college

• Adhere to best practices at all times

• Work closely with colleagues and high school students and their parents as they
navigate the high school curriculum in preparation for selective college
admissions

• Write counselor letters of recommendation for students in the senior class

• Coordinate the process among students and teachers for requesting/writing
faculty letters of recommendation

• Stay current with trends and changes in college admissions

• Collaborate with administration and faculty regarding school initiatives with a
mind toward creating innovative programs that develop unique skills in our
students and distinguish them during the application process

College Counseling Department Leadership

• Oversee the department budget

• Work closely with members of the administrative support team in their college
counseling-related roles, e.g., High School Head and Principal, High School
Office Manager and Registrar, Student Support Counselor, High School
Coordinator, etc.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with college and university
admissions officers

• Visit colleges and universities, including participating in counselor fly-in
programs

• Increase college visitors to Oakwood through fall college representative visits
and targeted programming that invite senior-level admissions and related
professionals to campus

• Actively participate in professional organizations (NACAC, College Board,
ACCIS, BASICC, etc.)

• Regularly participate in forums of professional exchange, e.g., speaking on
panels, leading workshops, etc.

• Lead the annual production and revision of the School Profile

• Assure that the High School Head and Principal is aware of current trends in
college admissions

• Prepare an end-of-year report for the Head of School and Board of Trustees

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to)

• Embody Oakwood School's mission and values

• Support and follow school policies and procedures

• Attend staff meetings, Back-to-School Nights, Admissions Information Sessions,
Open Houses, and other events as scheduled

• Help promote a welcoming environment and culture of inclusiveness through
positive interactions with students, families, visitors, and colleagues

• Maintain absolute confidentiality with sensitive personal information

• Complete supervisory duties on campus and at various off-campus events, as
required

• Support and follow school policies and procedures

• Assist with proctoring College Board exams, as required


• Superb written and verbal communication skills

• Exceptional interpersonal skills

• Comfort presenting to large groups

• Basic fluency in the Google suite of applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides)

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple projects
simultaneously
