Head Counselor for Summer Camp

The Wardlaw+Hartridge School, located in Edison, New Jersey, is seeking Head Counselors for our Summer Adventures program for the 2024 summer.

General Responsibilities:

To oversee the safety and well-being of a group of 15 campers for the duration of the camp, and to plan and implement age-appropriate recreational and educational activities for campers on a daily basis.

We are looking for head counselors to lead groups at our Adventure Camp (Grades 1-5), Sports Camp (Grades 1-8), Specialty Camps (Grades 4-8), and Camp Funshine (PreK - K).

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Creation of daily activity plans for campers
  • Supervision of campers on campus and during off campus visits
  • Management of a team of Junior Counselors
  • Reporting of any incidents or accidents to appropriate program personnel
  • Communications with parents as needed
  • Assisting with safe arrival/departure of campers
  • Awareness of participant/counselor allergies, medications and emergency contact information
  • Other camp duties, as assigned Hours: 8:15am - 4pm

    Dates: Summer Adventures runs from June 24 - August 9, 2024. Staff need to be available for at least 2 full weeks to be considered.

    Job Requirements:

    Must be at least 21 years of age.

    Must have a minimum of one of the following:

    • two seasons of previous experience at a children's camp
    • one year of experience as a head or assistant classroom teacher at an elementary school
    • two years of experience working with elementary school children in an after school program or similar educational setting Must be available to work at least two consecutive weeks of camp For more information about our Summer Programs, please visit
