POSITION:
Assistant Professor of Latin American History
Stetson University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Latin American History. Candidates
with expertise in transnational and indigenous history, including precolonial history, the history of
the Atlantic World, and/or Africana Studies, are encouraged to apply.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.
D. in History, Latin American Studies, or a related βield by August 2024. The successful candidate
will have an active scholarly agenda and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates in
both general and specialized areas of history. Candidates who have experience working with
students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher
education for students from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will offer both lower and upper-division courses in their area of expertise,
while participating in our vibrant Latin American and Latino Studies, Africana Studies, and General
Education Programs, including First-Year and Junior Seminars. The candidate will have
opportunities, if desired, to contribute to vibrant faculty-led international programs. For more

THE DEPARTMENT:
Stetson's Department of History ) takes a rigorous,
interdisciplinary approach to undergraduate liberal arts education. Our faculty are also committed
scholars with strong publication records and a broad range of international and linguistic expertise.
We beneβit from our central location in a state that has a diverse Latina/o/x community that forms
nearly 30% of the total population, and that has easy access to St. Augustine, Miami, and various
Spanish colonial period archives, as well as direct βlights to Latin America.
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES:
Stetson's College of Arts and Sciences ) is the largest and
most diverse of the University's colleges and schools; it includes the humanities, social sciences,
natural sciences, education, and creative arts. With nineteen academic departments and nine
interdisciplinary programs, the College is the liberal arts core of the University. A great strength of
the College is its faculty of approximately 150 full-time teacher-scholars. The College offers 38
undergraduate majors and 40 undergraduate minors; graduate degrees are offered in Education,
Counselor Education, and Creative Writing. Every undergraduate major requires a senior research
project, giving students the opportunity to design and carry out independent research under faculty
mentorship. Our academic programs are shaped by the values of social justice and civic
responsibility. All of our courses and programs of study promote engaged learning, whereby
students create connections between the classroom or lab and the local, regional, and global
community. The academic programs of the College of Arts and Sciences prepare students to live

THE UNIVERSITY:
Founded in 1883, Stetson University ) is a private, selective university
comprised of a rich array of liberal arts and professional academic programs. Collectively, Stetson's
faculty works with nearly 3,700 students in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.
The University's historic main campus, located in DeLand, enrolls more than 2,300 students in
undergraduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Business Administration,
and the School of Music. Stetson University College of Law, Florida's βirst law school, moved from
the main campus to Gulfport in 1945, and, with the addition of the Tampa Law Center, serves
approximately 1,000 students working full-time or part-time toward J.D. or LL.M. degrees. Graduate
programs offered at the main campus include Business, Accounting, Educational Leadership,
Counseling, and Creative Writing. Florida's oldest private institution of higher learning, Stetson has
regularly been ranked among the best regional universities in the Southeast and was the βirst
private college in Florida to be granted a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 38,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach
and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational
