JOB OVERVIEW:

The Psychiatrist develops treatment plans and implements preventive strategies for Northeast Florida Health Services (NEFHS) patients experiencing behavioral or mental health conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to patients within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting, focusing on individuals with diverse behavioral and mental health needs.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including gathering patient history, assessing symptoms, and formulating treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique circumstances.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, carefully monitoring medication efficacy and potential side effects while collaborating with other healthcare providers within the FQHC team.
  • Offer evidence-based psychotherapy services, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other therapeutic modalities, as appropriate for patient needs.
  • Coordinate care with other members of the interdisciplinary team, including licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, primary care physicians, and case managers, to ensure integrated and holistic treatment approaches.
  • Conduct regular follow-up appointments to monitor treatment progress, adjust medication regimens as necessary, and provide ongoing support and psychoeducation to patients and their families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and treatment planning meetings to discuss complex cases and coordinate care transitions for patients with multiple healthcare needs.
  • Collaborate with community resources and external agencies to facilitate referrals for patients requiring additional support services, including substance abuse treatment, housing assistance, and social services.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the FQHC, participating in performance measurement activities, outcome monitoring, and program evaluation efforts.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the field of psychiatry and behavioral health, including emerging treatment modalities, best practices, and evidence-based interventions, to inform clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements, including documentation standards, billing guidelines, and compliance with FQHC policies and procedures.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities, including continuing medical education (CME) opportunities and participation in relevant conferences and training programs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) in Psychiatry.
  • Valid Florida Medical License
  • Completion of an approved residency program in Psychiatry.
  • Experience with Patient-Centered Medical Home model preferred.
  • Completion of a qualified residency program or demonstration of a reasonable volume of patient care within the past 12 months.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience providing psychiatric care in a clinical setting, with a preference for candidates with experience in community health or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environments.
  • Proficiency in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, with strong clinical skills in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse patient population and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Commitment to providing culturally competent care and addressing the unique needs of underserved communities within the FQHC model.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage a caseload of patients while ensuring timely documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Willingness to participate in quality improvement activities and engage in ongoing professional development to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
