Conduct independent research activities under the guidance of a faculty mentor in preparation for a full time academic or research career.

Work Performed

A post-doctoral associate position is available immediately in Neuromodulation and Stroke Recovery Lab, Department of Neurology, Duke University School of Medicine

Our research laboratory focuses on

1) understanding the mechanisms of motor/visual field deficit recovery and identifying targets for precision rehabilitation/intervention;

2) development of imaging and neurophysiological biomarkers of stroke motor impairment, sensory and visual field deficit recovery;

3) Use non-invasive brain stimulation tools (transcranial direct current stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, low-intensity focused ultrasound stimulation, etc.) to modulate/mitigate these deficits. We have a robust funding track record from the National Institute of Health, American Heart Association, industry, and philanthropic donations. We are seeking a motivated and independent candidate with a primary interest in post-stroke recovery (motor, vision, or pain recovery). The position is at least for 2 years.

Responsibility:

· Led project to collect, process, and analyze behavioral, neurophysiology, and imaging data in stroke patients.

· Write and submit manuscripts to high-impact peer-reviewed journals

· Assist in grant proposal preparation

· Collaborate with lab staff and participate in weekly project meetings

· Present findings at local national and international scientific meetings

· Supervise and mentor graduate students (MS, PhD, and medical students) or residents or fellows at various levels

Qualification:

· Ph.D. in neuroscience or neurobiology rehabilitation science Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. MD with additional human experiments laboratory training is acceptable.

· Proficiency in MATLAB (required) and Python (preferred).

· Good knowledge of statistics and study design.

· Demonstration of the capability of publishing peer-reviewed publications as the first authors.

· Strong work ethic, time management skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

· Candidate must have experience in at least one following areas: neurophysiology (TMS or EEG) testing, neuro-imaging(sMRI/fMRI/fNIR) testing, and behavioral (neuromechanics) testing.

· Comfortable working with stroke subjects in both acute and chronic stages.

Min Degree Requirements:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.
