The Chicago Regional Admissions Counselor is an official representative of the university. This individual is involved with recruitment of prospective students by means of contact with high school guidance and career counselors, college fairs, informational sessions and meeting with prospective parents, students and others regarding admissions to Marquette in and around Illinois.

The Admission Counselor will be asked to represent Marquette University to prospective parents and students through answering admissions-related phone calls, traveling to an assigned domestic territory, visiting high schools and community-based organizations, presenting to large and small groups, attending at on-campus events, and generally participating in counseling activities in the day-to-day operations of the Undergraduate Admissions Office. This role will involve frequent night and weekend work commitments and requires the Regional Admissions Counselor to live and work remotely in the greater Chicagoland area.

In addition to the traditional responsibilities, the Chicago Regional Admissions Counselor will dedicate extra time to reviewing freshman applications for admission and responding to office email inquiries.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Answer prospective student inquiries (phone, email, and letter), conduct presentations, and generally represent Marquette to external constituents. Conduct informational/evaluative interviews with prospective students (freshmen and transfers) and their families.

2. Review applications for admission and scholarship decisions; offer or decline applications based on review by other counselors and a review committee member.

3. Serve as a territory manager for a designated territory in and around Illinois. Represent the university to prospective students through off-site and virtual recruitment activities (high school visits, college fairs, information nights, hotel interviews).

4. Serve as (or provide assistance to) the liaison between the admissions office and some of the university's schools, colleges or departments.

5. Conduct informational/evaluative interviews with prospective students (freshman and transfers) and their families. This will often take place in the territory, but can also be on campus as well.

6. Increase the quality of university relations with assigned Illinois high schools' college guidance departments and 2-year campus transfer advising offices.

7. Represent the university to prospective students at on-site open house programs.

8. Continuous updating of personal knowledge base about the university and its position in the marketplace, especially the university's points of distinction, as well as those of its competitors (i.e. meetings).

9. Serve as (or provide assistance to) the liaison between the admissions office and some of the university's schools, colleges or departments

10. Increase the quality of university relations with assigned Chicago-area high schools' college counseling departments and CBO's such as Chicago and Schuler Scholars, as well as independent counselors.

11. Represent the university to prospective students at on-site and virtual visit and open house programs.

12. Continually update their personal knowledge base about the university and its position in the marketplace, especially the university's points of distinction, as well as those of its competitors.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A bachelor's degree.
A valid driver's license.
Occasional standing for extended periods of time. Extensive car travel and some travel environments domestically.
Excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills.
Knowledge of higher education and admission policies and programs.
Ability to present pertinent information on Marquette University and the college selection process to both large and small groups.
Ability to communicate well with prospective students, their parents, and counselors.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
One year of admissions related experience working with first-year and/or transfer students.
Previous admissions experience and familiarity with Marquette University.
Bilingual (Spanish) strongly desired.
