Physician - Chief Health Informatics Officer

Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday
Pay:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME:
Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract:
No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
As the resident expert in clinical informatics and health IT, the Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) serves as the primary advisor to the Chief of Staff and other key officials.
The CHIO is expected to be a strong agent for change and must demonstrate an ability to understand the needs of their counterparts, for examples, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, etc.
In addition, the CHIO must demonstrate understanding of the VISN organizational structure and the role informatics plays within this structure.
As the CHIO at a facility, the incumbent is part of a nationwide VHA team charged with actively and vocally supporting the goal of establishing a workable national informatics infrastructure for VHA, and for advancing national solutions for managing workflow and knowledge in clinical systems.
The CHIO will promote standardization of best practices across facilities in the VISN in alignment with HRO principles.The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Play key role in using the capability of the VA clinical information systems to assist practitioners in doing the right things for the right patients at the right time.
Ensures the VHA electronic health record (EHR) operates in a way that improves patient care, ensures patient safety, and meets the needs of providers through continuous evaluation, testing, and improvement of the system.
Expand and enhance patient access to patient information through the various initiatives, and further the effective and efficient use of medical information systems for patients.
Facilitates a VHA infrastructure meant to support the Enterprise and end user throughout EHR modernization.This includes informatics operations that support activities to address the people, process, and technology components of EHR modernization around the four phases of implementation, involving the (1) Preparation, (2) Initiation, (3) Adoption, and (4) Optimization phases.
Effectively creates, integrates, disseminates, and manages data for enterprise applications, processes and entities requiring timely and accurate data delivery.
Coordinate information management support for clinical activities within the Network by participating collaboratively with staff to design, implement, and evaluate the clinical information systems configuration, and the capabilities that will be used.
Work closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Biomedical engineering, Medical, Nursing, and other clinical staff, allowing for routine dialog to enable the sustainment and optimization of our health IT solutions and workflows.
Work collaboratively with appropriate leadership to identify strategic opportunities and initiatives that will enhance organizational improvement efforts through the systematic application of informatics principles and tools.
